The Earlham College Green Science Project

The Green Science applied group designs, installs, and maintains modest solar and wind generation systems and building level power consumption monitoring gear. We also build and maintain the various software stacks and visualization systems associated with monitoring and producing power on Earlham's campus.

We work closely with the Hardware Interfacing Project (HIP), another applied science group at Earlham, and with Earlham's Maintenance Department, especially Steve Belec, Danny Turner and Cindy Callahan.

Current participants are: Ivan Babic, Ben Smith, Sanele Mahlalela, Tristan Wright, Mic Jackson (faculty) and Charlie Peck (faculty).

Alums are: Alvaro Puente, Sam Wein, Colin Copeland, Kate Branson, Dan Coppock and Ehren Nagel.

Bill Birum, a dear colleague of ours and someone who taught us a lot in this context passed away in August, 2010. We hope that over time our work fulfills at least some of his vision for energy conservation and local energy production at Earlham.
