Visualization of System Metrics Part II

I would like to continue my senior project as an independent study. My senior project was visualization of of the various aspects of the Linux Operating system. This included not only researching ways to obtain the information from the operating system, but also researching the best way to display that information and allow the user to interact with it. My independent study would expand that research to cover the area of networks. This includes all of the network equipment attached them, servers, hubs, switches, routers, etc.

The reason that I would like to do this study is that it would provide me with valuable experience in managing and programming a large software project. I feel that it would also be an invaluable tool for analysis and maintenance of networks. It also has the potential to be a great teaching aid for the understanding of how networks work, as well as, how they are interconnected and setup.

The references that will be used for this study include the following:

1. The Java AWT reference by O'Reilly and Associates.

2. The Java Swing Reference by O'Reilly and Associates.

3. Java Distributed Computing by O'Reilly and Associates.

4. Cyber Space, The First Steps. The MIT Press.

5. The Linux Kernel Source Code.

6. TCP/IP Network Administration by O'Reilly and Associates.

7. The Internet inorder to locate and research source code of various network protocols.

The evaluation of this independent study will be on and A - NP scale based on the percentage of the project completed as well as the discretion of the faculty supervisor.
