Welcome!
This is the major project of this year's Networks and Networking class. Our group is working on a project that involves filtering packets, routing packets and choking network activity between multiple interfaces. Our professor's description can be located at off of the class homepage. Over the course of the project, we will be maintaining several documents that will describe our progress and thought processes. Also the source code to the project can also be seen here, if you were wondering.
Project Outline
What are we doing?
  • Implementing a basic router that will forward IP packets between two or more interfaces on a computer.
  • Filtering packets by:
    • Source Address
    • Destination Address
    • Protocol
    • <Something else>
  • Designing a kernel module that will monitor and alter network bandwidth utilization between interfaces of differing speeds.
  • Later, we will also be working with another group to test our software. That group is working on building a wide area network (in one room).

How are we going to do it?

  • Well, that's a question I should defer to my collegues...

Why are we doing it?

  • Because we don't have enough to do, and we really thought this would occupy lots of spare time that would otherwise be used to referee chicken boxing matches.
