Jessica (fellow student from Earlham) and I left Aberdeen on the 15:15 train for Dublin. Neither of us slept much on the way over because of the excitement. The trip lasted 14 hours 43 minutes with 4 stops. The train from Chester, England to Holyhead, Whales was jammed pack with people heading for the ferry for Dublin. We arrived in Dublin at 7:00 and I started drinking Guinness by 9:00. We watched the parade at 11:00, then walked around temple bar, and the park. Temple bar is an area of Dublin with lots of pubs and shops. I went out that night with a few friends from Earlham and then crashed on their floor at the hostel. I spent Saturday walking around and checking out the sites. I tried to get into the U2 concert that night but I had no luck. I left Saturday night on the 22:15 ferry and stayed in a great bed and breakfast at Holyhead. I met some great people at the pub there and then moved on back to Aberdeen the next morning.
Dublin is the home of the Book of Kells, which was written over 1000 years ago. It was sent to Dublin around 1653 for security reasons during the Cromwellian period. It costs £4.50 to go in and see it but it was worth it.
