Fort William is located south-east of the Isle of Skye. The Glen Nevis Mountains begin near the north end of town and extend south. The Glen is popular with movie makers - part of Mel Gibson's Braveheart was filmed here. Unfortunately, I have not seen the movie but I have been told what to look for during the show. Only the first hour of the movie, everything before York, was filmed in Scotland. Mel Gibson was flown in by helicopter for a half hour speech on top of one of the hills in the Glen. Maybe you can piece it together from the 4 pictures below.

Inverlochy castle is a mile NE of Fort William. It is a ruined 13th century castle but the two round towers and the two entrances still exist. Both gates used portcullises. Robert the Bruce destroyed much of the castle around 1308, and the castle was later held by the Gordon of Huntly.
