St. Andrews

St. Andrews is supposedly founded by St. Regulus in the 4th century. He brought relics of St. Andrew who became Scotland's patron saint. St. Andrews developed into the ecclesiastical capital of the country. The university, founded in 1410, was the first in Scotland. James I and III both recieved some education here.

Golf has been played here since the 15th century. The Old Course dates from the 16th century. The Clubhouse was built in the mid 19th century. The British Open Championship has taken place here since 1873. Green fees cost £72 ($120) and you have to book a year in advance.
