Flight Over
The plane ride over went much quicker than I expected. I was suppose to depart from
Indianapolis at 2:30. Instead, we sat on the runway for a half hour because the airways
were to crowded. The flight from Indianapolis to Detroit took less than an hour. We switched
planes quickly in Detroit and left there at 4:30 p.m. The trip from Detroit to Amsterdam took
6 hours and 52 minutes. I stayed awake for most of the trip because I was excited about getting
here. The dinner on the plane was either chicken or pasta. I chose to eat the chicken along
with a Bloody Mary. The meal was much better than I expected. I sat by two people and talked
with them a couple of times during the flight. One was a student my age and she was headed to
Venice for the semester to study the Italian language and culture. The other person was an American
from Atlanta but has moved and now lives in Kiev, Ukraine. His brother wanted him to join him in a
lawyer partnership so that is why he decided to move. He also said that you will never find a better
looking women than in Kiev. I have heard that line a lot since I have been over here. I landed in
Amsterdam around 5:30, their time. My plane left Amsterdam at 7:30 so I spent some time sitting
around the airport. Amsterdam's airport was extremely large and I understand that it gets very crowded
in the afternoon. I boarded the plane at 7:15 but sat there for an hour before the plane took off to
Aberdeen. The flight to Aberdeen was 1:35 minutes and once the clouds cleared it was a pretty
flight. The breakfast they gave us on this flight was pretty bad. A ham and cream cheese sandwich
on some kind of bun with nuts. There was also some kind of cookie on my plate but I could only stand one bite.

My Thoughts On The Scotland Program 4/12/00
The Scotland program is more individual based than most/some of the other programs offered by the
GLCA (Great Lakes College Association). We only get together as a group three times during the term
and this is not mandatory. I have enjoyed the freedom because I think everyone has their own interest
on what sites they would like to visit. I have heard that some people would like more guidance but I feel
that people learn best when they have to figure it out on their own. The University of Aberdeen would
not be my first choice for a four year university. It is much like the larger Ball State or Purdue back home.
I am probably biased because of my good experiences at Earlham College. My course work has been
enjoyable. I have only had two assessment papers and 1 program due thus far. I still have three more
assessment left before the end of the term and then finals. The papers were/are only 1500 words and
the program assignment was much like the daily work given back at Earlham. I have really enjoyed the
three week spring break which is normal at most universities in the UK. Aberdeen has been a great place
to visit but I am ready to move on to a different location. Spring is just around the corner which has made
the weather pretty miserable because of the amount of rain and clouds.
