X-Bofh-Org-Uk: Mail apply@bofh.org.uk for a bofh.org.uk address
X-Bofh-Org-Uk: But make sure you follow the guidelines

You may have noticed the X-Bofh-Org-Uk: headers in my postings to
these (and certain other) groups. And you may be asking yourself "But
what are the guidelines?". And, since I haven't actually told anyone
what they were for a while, and I don't think they've made it into any
FAQ as yet, then you're not likely to know what they are. (I can tell
this 'cos I haven't received any mail for apply@bofh.org.uk for a
while). So, here they are in all their glory -- I may post them again,
I may not:

Guidelines for getting an email address in bofh.org.uk
======================================================

1. Assuming you're not an inhabitant of the UK, think up a bloody good
reason why you should have a uk email address.
2. Write a few screenfuls about any topic of your choice (provided
that it's related to bofhery that is).
3. Email this (along with your rationale for having a uk address (if
   applicable)) to apply@bofh.org.uk.
4. For extra credit (and possibly to get lobbyists on your side), post
the screed to bofh.general (If we start to see lots of these maybe
we should newgroup bofh.uk-org for such postings)
5. Wait.

If I'm in a good mood, and the panel liked your rant then you will
receive some mail to your shiny new bofh.org.uk address telling you
you succeeded.

If I'm in a bad mood and the panel didn't like your rant, then you'll
receive some mail to your old, rusty email address, telling you that
you're a worthless luser who isn't fit to wipe the nose of a true
BOFH.

If I'm in a bad mood, and the panel liked your rant then it's likely
to put me in a good mood...

If I'm in a good mood, and the panel didn't like the rant then you'll
receive a polite note telling you you failed and wishing you luck on
your next attempt.

One of the above statements is a lie. I'll leave it up to you to guess
which one.

Future plans for bofh.org.uk
============================

Some sort of remailer which will rewrite members headers so that mail
will actually be sent from a bofh.org.uk address.

Something similar for news.

Anyone for a mailing list? (Personally I think the bofh newsgroups
work admirably well...)

Any other, reasonable, suggestions will be shred^H^H^H^H^Hgiven the
consideration they deserve.

However, I'm something of lazy bastard, so if anyone would care to
submit code to do either of these then they'll earn my undying
gratitude. (Peter da Silva gave me some tcl code, but I'm afraid tcl
and me don't get on so I've not looked at hacking them into doing the
job...)
