Algebra A, Homework 3

From Chapter 3, how about doing problems

1, 2, 14, 17, 18, 26-29, 31-33, 39-42.

In Problems 2 and 32, remember that |G| may be infinite.

One extra problem: the proof of Cayley's Theorem shows that the group
D_3 is isomorphic to a subgroup of S_n for some n.  Find n, and show
the isomorphism explicitly.  Rmk: n isn't 3.  This shows one aspect of
the weakness of Cayley's Theorem.
