Abstract Algebra A, Homework 1

For next Wednesday, 8/31/2011, how about reading Chapter 1 and
doing problems (1-18) - (1-24).  That is, do problems 18-24 in
Chapter 1.  (I wish the Maxfields wrote them as 1.18 and 1.24,
but they don't.)
