Treadle Reducer

Here is the tie-up for an 8-shaft pattern for a loom with 10 treadles. The Treadle Reducer lets one discover that this pattern can be woven on a loom with only 6 treadles using this skeleton tie-up:

Naturally, the Treadle Reducer would normally be used on more complex patterns than this. For instance, you might use it to reduce a 22-treadle tie-up for use on a 12-treadle loom.
