Geographic Situation

Republic of Macedonia is situated in southeastern Europe, between 40 deg. 50' and 42 deg. 20' north geographic latitude and 20 deg. 27' and 23 deg. 0.5' east geographic longtitude. It takes the central part of the Balkan Peninsula and is considered to be a characteristic Balkan country. Being in this part of Europe and the Balkans, Macedonia has a good and important geographic situation.

The good geographic situation is a result of the international traffic communications that lead through Macedonia and connect it with its neighbors, as well as the relative closeness of the Aegean and the Adriatic Sea.

The important traffic communications that pass through Macedonia help the country to be connected not only to its neighbors, but also to all the other European and non-European countries. The Macedonian roads are used for transfer of big quantities of transit goods and travelers, and that is why Macedonia is easily accessible and communicative.

This good geographic situation also helps Macedonia in its economic development. But, in the past, this good geographic situation was a threat to the freedom and the independence of the macedonian people. The territory of the Republic of Macedonia has been conquered a lot of times by countries that wanted to use its important geographic position, as well as its natural riches. The macedonian people have fought against these conquerers throughout the centuries, to keep the integrity of its territory and to pass it to its future generations as a free country.
