the problems you note in the beginning of
this post are not atypical of earlham's
community. while most of us push for diversity
and liberal ideals (i'm generalizing here), we often
overlook the fact that these things
are not one-sided. < br>i think we in the earlham community are
pampered with a virtual utopia. the majority of
us are on the same side of political issues.
this causes us to overlook the fact that the diversity
and harmony that we strive for will not happen as long
as those of us with "open minds" won't open them a bit more
to respect and contemplate the opinions and goals that differ
from our own.
what you write about seems a very pointed example of how
this can happen even within the same fac tion of ideals.
i'm glad you said something.
there is no such thing as selective diversity -- be it of
a person's race or a person's ideals.
thanks for making an effort to change this situation.
